Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
