Palestinian-American Teenager Released After 270 Days in Israel's Detention

A Palestinian-American teenager who spent nine months in imprisonment by Israel absent formal charges has been freed.

The teenager Mohammed Ibrahim had just turned 15 at the time of his arrest in February within the occupied West Bank, during a family visit from his Florida home for allegedly throwing stones at Jewish settlers, allegations he repeatedly contested.

United States authorities applauded Mohammed's liberation.

Currently aged sixteen, needed medical care for treatment immediately after release, family members reported.

Family described him as showing signs of malnutrition, and is suffering from conditions developed during imprisonment.

Via family representatives, the youth's uncle spoke of the family's "tremendous relief".

The uncle, Zeyad Kadur described how relatives endured "enduring a dreadful, continuous nightmare" throughout the past nine months.

"Right now, we are focused on providing Mohammed with the immediate medical attention he requires after experiencing mistreatment by authorities and brutal treatment for months."

American authorities stated they would maintain to offer diplomatic assistance for the Ibrahim family.

{"American leadership has no higher priority to ensuring the safety for United States citizens"," the department emphasized.

A group of American legislators submitted a formal letter to diplomatic officials and the administration, requesting additional efforts to release him.

The father, a father-of-four who runs an ice cream business based in Tampa, previously claimed Mohammed acknowledged allegations about rock throwing after being assaulted by soldiers.

The father hadn't visited or spoken to Mohammed following the detention, and only heard about his son's condition through judicial records.

The teenager remained absent formal charges at Ofer detention facility on the West Bank.

Additionally housing mature inmates, some of whom have been convicted regarding severe security violations and homicide.

An estimated several hundred young Palestinian detainees being held in Israeli jails, per correctional service statistics.

Many have never been charged while advocacy organizations, and international organizations, document cases involving physical abuse and torture.

Following Mohammed's release, the uncle stated the family would also continue fighting demanding accountability for their family member their cousin Sayfollah.

The 20-year-old dual US citizen per medical officials died from beating by Israeli settlers during a confrontation during summer.

Initially, defense forces stated officials were investigating information regarding a civilian had been killed.

The two cousins collaborated at their family's ice cream business from Tampa.

No charges have been filed regarding Sayfollah's death.

"We expect United States leadership to ensure our family's safety," Mr Kadur said.
